Stop the massacre of Christians in Iraq!

In Iraq an exodus of hundreds of thousands Christians is happening just before our eyes. Our brothers in faith are being expelled from their homes, forced to convert to Islam and in case of refusal – beastly murdered.

Armed Muslims – wherever they appear – destroy crosses and burn Christian books. Whole families are devoid of livelihood and homes, so that they die because of heat, hunger, bombs and fear. We can say without hesitation that a minority is exterminated in that region – said a French bishop Dominique Lebrun who has witnessed the fate of Christians in Iraq.

It is our duty to help the confessors of Christ dying every day! That is why we ask the ones, who are equipped with the capacity of providing them with proper support. The United Nations and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are the key elements of gathering widely understood international community. That is why both organizations should make all the efforts to set up military intervention in order to stop the genocide happening at the very moment.

Honourable

Ban Ki-Moon

Secretary General of the United Nations

Honourable

Anders Fogh Rasmussen

Secretary General of NATO

Terrifying situation in northern Iraq demands proportional reaction on the part of international community. Expelled from their homes, forced to convert to Islam, and in case of refusal – violently murdered, Iraqi Christians are waiting for our help. No man of good will can look at this with his or her conscience clear.

Our sufferings are only the prelude to what you, Western Europeans and Christians of the West will experience in the near future. (…) If you do not understand it soon enough, you will fall victims to the enemy who you invited to your home yourselves – said Amel Shimoun Nona, exiled bishop of Mosul (Iraq).

Moreover, archbishop Louis Sako, Patriarch of Baghdad, together with the special Vatican envoy, Cardinal Fernando Filano, submitted a dramatic appeal to the international community asking for military suport to the Christians in order to liberate the occupied areas as soon as possible and lastingly. We cannot let the hope of these people die!

Also the Highest Shepherd, Pope Francis is not indifferent to the fate of Iraqi Christians. The Pope called on the United Nations to stop the ongoing humanitarian disaster. The Holy Father stated also that in such cases, when it comes to unjust aggression, I can only say that holding back an unjust assailant is legally permitted. The papal statement was additionally supplemented by the Holy See Ambassador to the United Nations, who suggested that military action is necessary at the moment.

Bishops Conference of France also appeals for using force in Iraq in order to help Christians being the target of the Jihadists’ attacks.

We should remember that United Nations and North Atlantic Treaty Organization for the last several years have engaged their troops in numerous peace missions all over the world.

Therefore I firmly insist on the Secretary General of the United Nations and the Secretary General of NATO to make all possible efforts in order to stop the genocide of Christians in northern Iraq.
